Embroidery wall hanging tutorial

Materials

  • White on white fabric for the embroidery squares
  • Stranded cotton in red, light green, gold and pink
  • Fabric scraps for border and sashing
  • Embellishments and ribbon
  • Quilt batting
  • Fabric for the back

Embroidery

Pick any four of the words from my Christmas quilt and draw a few leaves and flowers around the letters as per photos below.

Peace block

Joy block

Love block

Hope block

Trim the embroidery to 4.5inches.

Border

Cut 2 inch stripes of fabric and assemble as per picture below.

Make a quilt sandwich with the top, the batting and the backing fabric and stitch around the inside border only.

Binding

The binding is double folded. Cut 2 stripes of fabric 1.5 inch wide, fold in half and iron. Attach to the wall hanging with mitered corners.made out of one long 1.5 inch stripe folded in half.



Closeup

Embellish with self covered buttons, fabric flowers sequins and the like.

Iron the wall hanging well so that it hangs straight.

Ready to hang on the wall!
